Notebook vs. Laptop: What’s the Real Difference?

Many people are asking – what’s the real difference between a laptop and a notebook?  With the advent of the portable counterpart of the desktop computer which is the laptop, consumers from all over the world became so passionate about it.  Back then, if you have a laptop, you’re cool and everything.  And because of this warm welcome to this technology, many more versions have evolved.  You’ll hear about notebooks, netbooks, and mini laptops. Some people are saying that the notebook is the smaller counterpart of laptop.  What about the netbook? Let’s try to find out…It’s good to take a look on how it all began.   In year 2008, the laptop technology dominated the computing world. There were also the PC tablets and Smartphone but it was only the laptop that has served as a complete alternative for the desktop computer.  It has all the features (and in some ways more features) and function of the desktop.  Only that it is smaller and it runs using a battery which makes the standard usage time shorter.  That’s why it was called a laptop – a computer that you can just place on top of your lap.  A year after, more models were rereleased. Laptops were categorized into notebooks, netbooks, and the so called ultra mobile computers.

Notebook vs. Laptop – is there any difference?

So we can say that notebook came after the laptop.  But if you’re going to ask people, they’ll tell you different things about laptops and netbooks.  Here’s the thing – laptops and notebooks are actually the same with very little distinctions.  It is to be noted that as a trend, manufacturers are producing laptops in more compact and portable versions.  So people are using terms that would describe that this particular model is smaller in size than the standard laptop. It is safe to say then that notebook is the smaller version of laptop.  But aside from the size, there are a few more differences.  It’s time to take a look at them.

Laptops

All the features here can be found in almost all regular laptops regardless of the brand and the model.· The standard laptop computer has a size that ranges from 14 to 17 inches.· CD/DVD drive and has internal drives· Complete and large keyboard· The battery life of laptops may last for 3 hours or more· Today, most laptops are capable of being upgraded· Presence of USB ports and card slots.  Some models have Bluetooth while some don’t.· Wi-Fi system· Fast-performing processor

Notebooks

Here are the usual features of a standard notebook computer.· The computer screen ranges from 12 to 14 inches.· Since the size is smaller, we can assume that it’s lighter than the regular laptop.· Battery life is longer.  It can last for 4 hours or more.  Since the computer is smaller, it uses less power to run applications.· Notebooks do have CD/DVD drives but there’s no internal floppy disk drive· The keyboard is fully functional yet a bit smaller than that of the standard laptop.· The processor is slower than laptops.By looking at their differences, we can conclude that laptops are basically and actually the exact counterpart of desktop computer.  They are designed to bring the desktop to your lap and work on it with convenience.  But because many people are still looking for ‘more’ portable laptop machines, notebooks were created.  They were designed to make the laptop experience even more convenient and enjoying. Notebook vs. Laptop should not be a big issue.  They’re both cool and helpful.  It may just depend on your preference and needs.  So when you go to the store to look for a laptop or a notebook to buy, you know now which one to pick.
